The vines cover an area of twenty hectares, and have only been planted on the slopes of the hill on which the old stone farmstead stands. It is this very situation that prompted us to call our wines “Sottocasa” (Next Door). We respect the biological rhythm of our vines and grapes, and make little use of either machines or chemicals in our cellars, as we trust in the basic quality of our product.
The vineyards appear situated in a crater, although the valley is actually the fruit of the erosion of tiny streams. This location protects the plants from the north winds and grants them the benefit of a gentle sea breeze, which in springtime keeps them ventilated and in summer safeguards them against excessive heat.
At Poderi Firenze, we even prune and harvest by hand. Being the region of "Super Tuscan" wines, Sangiovese plays a leading role in our vineyards, followed by Montepulciano and Ciliegiolo. Particular attention was paid to the location of the Syrah and Cabernet vines, whose best grapes are used to obtain our top-range organic wine, following suitable fermentation and aging
in oak barrels.
Production: 30.000 bottles
Being a young firm operating in an area traditionally devoted to extensive farming, we have had to build a brand new cellar. This was designed in such a way as to reduce the use of pumps as much as possible, so as to minimise the stress caused by machinery on the must and wine that drops into the fermenting bins.
These are made in cement, exploiting the material's insulating and inert properties, thus reducing the need for heat regulation. Humidity is kept constant in the barrel gallery by means of special canals of water flowing over beds of gravel. The wine is left to age in Slovenija oak barrels,
tonneau and barriques.

The family-run business was established with great enthusiasm in 2003 with a view to restoring the area, which had come to be known as ”L’Abbandonato” (The Abandoned One), to its ancient splendour. To this end, we dedicate considerable time and effort to our vineyards, fully aware that good wine depends entirely on good vines. PODERI FIRENZE is situated close to the Orcia Valley, between the provinces of Siena and Grosseto. The Siena side is cultivated with the red grapes used to produce Brunello wine, and the Maremma side with the red grapes used for Montecucco wine. The vineyards appear situated in a crater, although the valley is actually the fruit of the erosion of tiny streams. This location protects the plants from the north winds and grants them the benefit of a gentle sea breeze, which in springtime keeps them ventilated and in summer safeguards them against excessive heat.
