Extension: 21 acres
Pian delle Querci is a small family estate that stretches for 50 hectares (123 acres) of which 8.5 hectares (21 acres) are vineyards located in the north-western slope of the Montalcino DOCG appellation, side by side to the prestigious "cru" of Montosoli. In these northern slopes, Sangiovese Grosso yields a fragrant, elegant, medium-alcohol style of Brunello. The training system used is the low spurred cordon, at a height of about 70 centimeters (2 - 1/2 ft) from the ground, and the yields per hectare are voluntarily kept low. The main cultivated grape is obviously the Sangiovese, the reference grape of Tuscany, which grows by sinking the roots in a clayey, skeleton-rich mixed soil, in vineyards located at about 250 meters (820 ft) above sea level.
Production: 56.000 bottles
In the cellar, for the fermentation, only indigenous yeasts are used, and the macerations are very long, to ensure that each bunch gives character and personality to the wine. The refinements are carried out in large Slavonian oak barrels.
Every year Pian delle Querci produces a small production, a little more than fifty thousand bottles. Next to the Rosso di Montalcino, the entry-level product of the entire range, we find the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, declined both with a basic version and with a Riserva.
Proprietor: Pinti family
Winemaker: Vittorio Pinti
The Pinti family have been in the agricultural field for four generations and, thanks to this experience, they can be proud of their wine production. Their Brunello di Montalcino production starts towards the end of the nineteenth century. Today, Angelo Pinti (son of Vittorio) and Angelina (Angelo's wife) strive to emphasize purity and classicism in their Rosso and Brunello, pursuing a minimally intrusive winemaking.
