SANT'ANDREA - Rosciano
It is the first vineyard we planted at the beginning of the XX Century and it really represents the historical and cultural heritage from which all the rooting cuttings of the new replanted vineyards are from. This selection and replanting have been made with the collaborations of the most important Italian nurseryman. The Masseria Sant’Andrea is 280 m. above the sae level and covers a surface of about 50 hectares, of which 30 are vineyards. In that area the vineyards take advantage of an excellent nourishment thanks to volcanic and clayey soils.
MILANO - Rosciano
It is situated in the Municipality of Rosciano and covers a surface of about 27 hectares of which 21 are vineyards. The grapes produced are Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (21 hectares) and Pecorino (6 hectares). Near the vineyards it lays 1 hectare olive trees of Maurino, Frantoio, Itrana, e Leccio del Corno varieties. A forest extends for the last 5 hectares of the property.
TRATTURO - Rosciano
This farm represents, together with the Masseria Sant’Andrea, the historical roots of Marramiero’s family.
The fields have an optimum soil and lay on a plain at 200 m. above the sea level with an exposure of 360°. This position creates a special wind circulation, that is very favourable for the cultivation of the vines and of the olive trees. In that area 3 hectares of Trebbiano and 700 olive trees have been planted.
AMARELLO - Ofena
The farm is situated on the plain known as “Oven of Abruzzo” because of the high temperatures reached during summertime, when there is a very peculiar micro climate with big thermical difference between night and day.
The soil is very different from the ones nearest the coast of “Trabocchi” described by the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, and it is characterized by the presence of many stones called “ciotoli”, generated in ancient times by the crumbling of the mountains around the area. Those stones have produced an arid and drained soil, where the vines must develop long roots to find the water and the nourishment in the depth. Here there are 6 hectares of Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino and Pinot Noir vines.
Production: 400.000 bottles
The attention to detail continues even in the cellar, where the respect for tradition is accompanied by the most modern oenological techniques--from the vinification of skins in wooden vats to those in stainless steel, by electronically controlled fermentation, to a systematic process for optimally stacking of barrels.
Rest and tranquility contribute to building the character of a fine wine. Each Marramiero wine follows its own path. Aging is dictated by nature, whether it takes place in steel or wood. Our casks are constructed with respect to the natural grain of the wood so as to guarantee a better seal and are made of the highest quality oak ensuring our wines achieve optimal evolution before they arrive at their final refinement in bottle.
Proprietor: Marramiero family
Winemaker: Romeo Taraborrelli
The Marramiero family has cultivated grapes since the beginning of the last century. After a careful selection of existing rootstocks in the sixties and seventies, they planted new vineyards to expand production.
Another important step came in the early nineties when Dante Marramiero, in an effort to marry modern technology with traditional agricultural methods, builds the current winery.
Fascinated by a landscape that passed in quick succession from the peaks of Gran Sasso, through the rolling hills of the Masseria Sant’Andrea, and down to the sea, Dante Marramiero quickly appreciated how a vineyard could flourish on the land that belonged to his family.
With a strong will guided by a continuous desire to improve, Dante Marramiero created his vision for working his grapes and aging and bottling his wine.
The most important legacy he left was sharing his values and passion with his children and a group of young people who have since carried out his vision to transform his dream into reality.
“I urge you never to betray work, from wherever it comes, desire and love it. If you lose it, find it again, because in it, you will find fidelity, serenity and well-being.”
This quote expresses the spirit of a man who built his life’s philosophy from his work ethic.
